Juhani Teräsvuori

Juhani Teräsvuori is an internationally recognized ballet master from Finland.

Education:

1966 – Finnish National Opera’s ballet school

1971Vaganova Academy in St. Petersburg with Professor Boris Bregvadze

1977 – Bolshoi ballet school, class of Olga Alexandrovna Ilina.

Appointments and Positions:

1966 –  Soloist at the Finnish National Ballet

1979 – Appointed as a ballet master of the Finnish National Ballet.

Career Highlights:

1084 – International career as a ballet master and ballet director.  In this capacity Juhani Teräsvuori has worked as guest pedagogue with over forty different companies around the world including Alberta Ballet in Canada; Deutche Opern am Rhein Dusseldorf, Dortmund Ballet and Semper Opern Dresden in Germany; Hungarian National Ballet, Pécs Ballet and Debrecen Ballet in Hungary; Ballet of the Arena di Verona and Teatro Lirco in Italy; Ballet of the New National Theatre Tokyo in  Japan; Cullberg Ballet , Royal Swedish Ballet and Gothenburg Ballet in Sweden; Ballet Basel and Grand Théâtre Genève in Switzerland; Donetsk Opera and Ballet Theatre in Ukraine; Estonian National Ballet, Norwegian National Ballet, Czech National Ballet and Brno Ballet in Czech republic , National Ballet of Portugal, Latvian National Ballet, Scottish National Ballet, Turkish National Ballet, Boston Ballet and Universal Ballet in Seoul, Korea, among others.

Juhani Teräsvuori has also acted as a Ballet Director in the Gothenburg Opera House in Sweden and Assistant Ballet Director in Arena di Verona / Teatro Lirico in Italy.  He has also acted as a ballet master and artistic advisor in several dance productions in Finland and abroad.

Current Position and Direction:

Juhani Teräsvuori is presently more and more concentrating in his work as a dance promoter and producer. Working with Nordic dance companies and dancers, in general, is very close to his heart.  In 2000 he expanded his activities by starting an international agency called Nordic Dance Management, presently NordicDance Makers, based in Finland. He has already been representing many dance companies and dance artists by organizing tours and performances both in Scandinavia and worldwide.

NordicDance Makers produced a Finnish Gala at Dansens Hus in Stockholm in February 2003. In August 2004 NordicDance Makers produced a Nordic Stars Ballet gala in the Hungarian State Opera House in Budapest with dancers from the Norwegian National Ballet, Royal Swedish Ballet (Stockholm 59◦ North) and Finland. The same production was seen in the Tampere Hall in Finland in August 2005. He is the Artistic Director and founder of the Lappeenranta Ballet Gala. First Gala was held in August 2010.   Juhani Teräsvuori was also acting as an Artistic Director of the Imatra Ballet Gala 1998-2009 in Finland and the Director of the Helsinki International Ballet Competition 2005.  Juhani served as a member of the Art Council for dance in Finland during the period 2004-2006.

Awards

Juhani Teräsvuori is awarded the Order of the Lion of Finland, the highest professional accomplishment recognition award (Pro Finlandia) in 2016.
